Mayor's Commentary - City Employee Tested Positive for COVID-19 (as of Sept. 1)
Today, September 1, an employee of Kasama City's Sewer Division, who had been in close contact with a previously infected individual, was confirmed to have tested positive for coronavirus after taking a PCR test on August 31.
Being the confirmed case was a city employee, we are responding to this situation with utmost seriousness.
As soon as probable cases of coronavirus were reported, we disinfected all working spaces of the related department, including offices, restrooms, and hallways.
Furthermore, all employees of the Sewer Division have been teleworking from home and undergoing health checks. Consequently, operations related to the sewage system have been reduced, and some work has been shifted to other staff members with experience in sewer operations.
According to the PCR test results, as of today, all other employee results came back negative.
As soon as no other city employees who may have come into contact with the individual have tested positive, regular sewerage operations will be resumed from September 3.
We will continue to work with Ibaraki Prefectural Central Public Health Center and other related organizations to prevent the spread of the coronavirus among city employees, and implement protective measures with the utmost care and make every effort to ensure a secure environment to protect our citizens.
