Mayor's Commentary - Entering the Obon week (as of August 7)
Amid concerns about the coronavirus spread, I would like to thank all citizens for their cooperation in order to avoid getting infected and avoid infecting others.
This month, we will be celebrating Obon, a time to welcome our ancestors' spirits and make offerings to them. Spending peaceful time with family and relatives is a significant and comforting event, even during this corona epidemic. However, large group dining can increase the risk of infection, so please disinfect your hands, avoid loud talking, provide proper ventilation, and take other preventive measures.
We ask that you refrain from going to or staying in Tokyo. As for traveling between prefectures, Ibaraki Prefecture has the policy to refrain from non-essential travel and stay in Tokyo. For all other areas, we ask that you act on your judgment. We ask that you understand the prefectural government's policy and respond appropriately.
Although the temperature is rising and the heat is set to peak, we ask you to continue wearing a mask, washing your hands thoroughly, avoiding crowded places, and following other "New Lifestyle" directions while taking heatstroke prevention measures.
In an effort to prevent the coronavirus spread, all businesses are urged to register with the 'Ibaraki Amabie-chan' system (Ibaraki only). We ask all citizens to 'check-in' with the 'Ibaraki Amabie-chan' using a QR-code at each store or facility every time they visit it.
Please use the 'COCOA' contact-confirming application as well.
