Mayor's Commentary - In response to the Declaration of a State of Emergency for Tokyo and Three Prefectures (As of Jan. 7)
On January 7, the Japanese Government declared a state of emergency in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba, and Saitama Prefectures due to the spread of coronavirus.
For the next month, from January 8 to February 7, restaurants are requested to shorten their business hours to 8 p.m., and people are urged to refrain from going out for non-essential purposes.
In response to the rapid spread of the virus, Ibaraki Prefectural Government today urged people throughout the prefecture to refrain from going out for non-essential reasons until January 20. Restaurants in ten municipalities (Hitachi City, Ushiku City, Tsuchiura City, Joso City, Yuki City, Hitachinaka City, Inashiki City, Yachiyo Town, Shirosato Town, and Ami Town), identified as areas where the virus has spread, are requested to shorten their operating hours until January 12.
The number of Kasama City residents who tested positive for the coronavirus has been increasing since last November, reaching 45 total cases. Although Kasama has not been identified as an area where the virus has spread, the situation is highly unpredictable.
At present, the use of public facilities is not restricted, and schools are not closed, unlike the state of emergency that was declared in April last year. However, living "With Corona" will continue. Therefore, it is vital that all citizens stay alert and keep to the guidelines to prevent the spread.
We ask you to wash your hands, rinse your mouth, ventilate rooms, and to avoid the "3 Cs". Please take extra precautions when having a get-together with a large number of people; remember to wear a mask while chatting and not to speak in a loud voice, as it increases the risk of infection. Finally, we ask that everyone refrain from going out for non-essential reasons.
