Mayor's Commentary - Confirmed Case of Coronavirus Infection (as of May 5)
Yesterday (May 4), a nurse working at the Ibaraki Prefectural Central Hospital in Kasama City was confirmed to have been infected with coronavirus.
The nurse who was confirmed to have been infected wore protective equipment and cared for coronavirus patients with great attention.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the healthcare professionals who are on the front lines, day and night, treating infectious diseases with a sense of mission.
Ibaraki Prefectural Central Hospital has been accepting patients with this infection since April 2. The hospital specializes in treating elderly patients at higher risk for severe illness and patients with moderate illness who need respiratory care, etc. All staff members in the hospital exert their maximum effort to deal with these patients with great care.
At the same time, it plays an important role as the key center of regional medical care.
I would like to ask all citizens to stay respectful of the people who are most at risk of being infected with coronavirus and to remain calm so that there will be no reputational damage caused by prejudice or unconfirmed information about medical professionals.
Please continue taking basic preventive measures against coronavirus, such as cough etiquette, proper handwashing, etc, as well as refraining from going out for non-essential reasons and avoiding the "Three Cs" (Closed spaces, Crowded places, Close-contact settings).
