Marufuku Medical Welfare Subsidy System (医療福祉費支給制度 マル福)

  1. Medical Welfare Subsidy System "Marufuku" (医療福祉費支給制度 (マル福), iryo fukushihi shikyu seido (marufuku)

"Marufuku" is a system designed to help lower-income families pay for their medical expenses, specifically families with pregnant mothers, single-parent families, families with children, and those with severe disabilities.

You need the following documents to apply for all Marufuku categories.

Please have them with you:

1. ID: Residence Card (在留カード, zairyu kādo) or Special Permanent Resident Card (特別永住者証明書, tokubetsu eijusha shomeisho)

2. Health Insurance Card (保険証, hokensho)

3. Personal seal (印鑑, inkan)

4. Bankbook (通帳, tsucho) or Cash Card (キャッシュカード, kyasshu kādo)

5. Income Tax Statement¹ (所得課税証明書, shotoku kazeishomeisho)


Additional documents depend on the Marufuku category.

Outpatient Service:

Up to ¥600 per day, per medical institution, up to 1 month and 2 days.

 

Hospitalization:

Up to ¥300 per day, per institution, up to 1 month and 10 days.

 

You will not have to pay for prescribed medicine at a pharmacy.

Single parents supporting a child under the age of 18 (under the age of 20 for families with children with certain disabilities and high school students)

Those with Severe Disabilities

・If you have a Physical Disability ID Booklet for stages 1 or 2, or a stage 3 internal disability

・If you have a Special Education Booklet "A" (profound disability)
・If you have both
a Physical Disability ID Booklet (stage 3)
and
Special Education Booklet "B" (severe disability)

・If you qualify for Disability Pension (stage 1)

・If you qualify for Special Child Rearing Allowance (stage 1)

・If you have a Mental Disability ID Booklet (stage 1)

¹ The Marufuku system has an income limit, meaning in order to apply, you will also need either an Income Tax Statement (所得課税証明書, shotoku kazeishomeisho) or a previous Marufuku Medical and Welfare Issuance and Expense Statement (医療福祉費受給者証交付状況証明書, iryo fukushihi shikyushasho kofu jokyo shomeisho).

※All above payments apply only to medical care that would be covered under your Japanese Health Insurance.

  • Additional subsidies may also be available through Kasama City to help cover other out-of-pocket medical fees such as meals. For more information, please contact the corresponding division at the City Hall.
