Subsidy Programs 

Subsidy Programs (助成制度, josei seido)

  • Community Garbage Collection Box  (ごみ集積ボックス設置補助金, gomi shuuseki bokkusu secchi hojokin)

Costs for installing or replacing a community garbage collection box for communities with 10 or more households may be subsidized for two-thirds of the installation cost (or up to ¥100,000).

  • Recyclable Collection Organizations (資源物分別回収団体への奨励金, shigenbutsu bunbetsu kaishuu dantai e no shoureikin)

If you register as a group for separate collection of recyclables and collect recyclables at least twice a year as part of your activities, you will receive an incentive grant according to the number of recyclables you collect.

"Recyclables" (資源物, shigenbutsu) are listed as following:

  1. Glass bottles (beer, sake, etc.) and plastic crates for beer/sake.
  2. Aluminum or steel cans
  3. Newspapers, magazines, and cardboard.
  4. Clothes, fabrics, etc. (note that some recycling facilities do not collect these)
  5. Cooking oil

  • Food waste disposal containers (生ごみ処理容器購入費補助金, namagomi syoriyouki kounyuhi shoureikin)

Kasama city subsidizes part of the cost of purchasing food waste disposal containers, etc. (electric garbage disposal machine, compost, EM bokashi containers). (As of January 2023)

 

Garbage Drop Off

Garbage Drop Off (ごみの持込み受付け, gomi no mochikomi uketsuke)

In addition to the normal collection, you may also drop off garbage at The Kasama city Enviroment Center directly.

 

Facility: Kasama city Environment Center (環境センター, kankyou sentā)

location: 1-162, Nagatoro Nikoda Iriaichi, Kasama-city

Tel: 0296-77-2416

Hours: Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. / 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Acceptable drop-offs: Burnables, non-burnables, oversized garbage, recyclables, and hazardous waste.

Fee: Regardless of the garbage category, ¥100 per 10kg (Even if it is less than 10kg, it costs ¥100.)

 

Collection of waste cooking oil

Please put it in plastic bottles or other containers and bring it to the Resources Recycling Division at Main office or Community Divisions in the Regional branches.

 

Recycling of small home appliances

Small home appliances such as cell phones and digital cameras contain many valuable metal resources. Kasama City is working to collect small home appliances. Please bring it in person to a counter of the Resources Recycling Division at Main office, Community Divisions in the Regional branches. Reception hours is when the office is open on weekdays. (8:30a.m. - 5:15p.m)

sticks, memory cards), video game software (excluding CDs and DVDs), electronic thermometers, electric thermo-hygrometers, electronic health meters, electronic baby scales, digital pedometers, film cameras, hair dryers, electric razors, electric epilators, electric toothbrushes, electronic clocks *Including accessories such as remote controllers, chargers, and rechargeable batteries. *Cautions*

 Make sure to erase all personal information before bringing.

 Please remove batteries.

 In order to prevent danger, please refrain from bringing disassembled home appliances.

 

Strict Prohibition of Controlled Burning

Any form of controlled burning (野焼き, noyaki), such as burning your own garbage or fields, is prohibited by law, except under special circumstances.

There has been an increase in recent complaints regarding smoke from illegal burnings. Therefore, we kindly ask that all waste, no matter how small, be properly disposed of at an appropriate garbage disposal facility.

Garbage Disposal Assistance for Elderly and Disabled Households

Garbage Disposal Assistance Program (高齢者 こうれいしゃ/ 障害者世帯対象しょうがいしゃせたいたいしょう収集袋しゅうしゅうぶくろによるごみ支援事業しえんじぎょう)

In order to assist elderly individuals and those with disabilities who may find it difficult to carry traditional garbage containers, eligible households can apply to receive "Non-Burnable Waste Bags" and "Recyclable Waste Bags." These bags can be purchased at the respective counter where you applied.
※Please note that these bags are not available at supermarkets or other retailers.

 

  • Eligibility

1. Households where all members are 65 years or older.

2. Households where all members have physical disabilities (and possess a Physical Disability ID Booklet; 身体障害者手帳しんたいしょうがいしゃてちょう, shintai shougaisha techou).

3. Households where members have been recognized as having difficulty carrying garbage containers.

  • Garbage Bag Fee

・Non-burnables garbage bags: 1 bag = ¥40  (不燃ごみ収集袋, funengomi shuushuu bukuro)

・Recyclables garbage bags: 1 bag = ¥20  (資源物収集袋, shigenbutsu shuushuu bukuro)

 

  • How to Apply

Apply at the Resources Recycling Division (City Hall) or Community Division (Kasama/Iwama Regional Branch). You may be asked to fill out a form.

※You may apply on behalf of someone else, provided you have their permission.

What to bring:
1. Your personal seal (印鑑, inkan)
2. Physical Disability ID Booklet (身体障害者手帳, shintai shougaisha techou), if applicable
