Mayor's Commentary
Regarding the Earthquake off the Coast of Fukushima Prefecture (2022/3/17)
Dear Residents of Kasama City,
Yesterday, March 16, at around 11:36 pm, Kasama City was hit by an earthquake with an intensity of 5 Lower on the Japanese seismic scale.
I am sure that there were people who were alarmed by the sudden and strong tremors and those who remembered the Great East Japan Earthquake and felt anxious.
Immediately after the earthquake, the City set up a Disaster Response Headquarters to assess the damage.
Although there were no reports of major damage or human casualties in the City, there were reports of power outages in some areas immediately after the earthquake, eaves falling off of a store, and other damages.
Since aftershocks are expected to continue, I would like to ask everyone to remain calm and double-check the disaster preparedness.
Although we are in an alarming natural disaster situation amidst the Covid-19 disaster, we intend to overcome this difficult situation together with all residents of the City.
Kasama City will continue improving its disaster risk management system.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Shinju Yamaguchi
