When You Become Pregnant (妊娠したら, ninshin shitara)

After your pregnancy is confirmed by your doctor, please submit a pregnancy notification (妊娠届, ninshin todoke) at the Health Center as early as possible.

  • Where to go: Health Center (保健センター, hoken sentā)
  • What to bring:
    1. ID: Residence Card (在留カード, zairyuu kādo) or Special Permanent Resident Card (特別永住者証明書, tokubetsu eijuusha shoumeisho)
    2. Individual Number: My Number Card (個人番号カード, kojin bango kādo) or My Number Notification Card (通知カード, tsuuchi kādo)
  • Here, you will receive:
  1. Maternal and Child Health Handbook (母子健康手帳, boshi kenkou techou)

  2. Coupon book for receiving discounts on medical checkups (妊婦一般健康診査受診票, ninpu ippan kenkou shinsa jushinhyou)
    ・During pregnancy (妊婦, ninpu): 14 coupons
    ・After giving birth (産婦, sanpu): 2 coupons
  1. Consultation with public health nurses and other professionals

  2. Information on maternity (parental) classes (マタニティルラス, mataniti kurasu)

What is a Maternal and Child Health Handbook?

The Maternal and Child Health Handbook (母子健康手帳, boshi kenkou techou) is used to record the entire health history of the mother from pregnancy to giving birth, and of the child from infancy to early childhood. It is designed to allow parents or guardians to make notes of and manage information, and to enable healthcare professionals to make notes of and view information.

 ! You need to take this handbook to prenatal and baby checkups, as well as when your child gets vaccinations.

Additionally, a Father and Child Health Handbook (父子健康手帳, fushi kenkou techou) is issued to those who become fathers for the first time.

Handbooks are available in Japanese and English, Korean, Chinese, Thai, Tagalog, Portuguese, Indonesian or Spanish.

Medical Welfare Subsidy System "Marufuku"

Medical Welfare Subsidy System "Marufuku" (医療福祉費支給制度 (マル福), iryou fukushihi shikyuu seido (marufuku)

  • Medical Treatment Support for Expectant and Nursing Mothers (妊産婦医療費助成, ninsanpu iryouhi josei)

The Marufuku System helps cover some medical expenses for certain families. Expectant and nursing mothers who have health insurance can apply.

There is an income limit.

Subsidy for Infertility Treatment

Subsidy for Infertility Treatment (特定不妊治療費補助, tokutei funin chiryouhi hojo)

Kasama City covers part of the cost to reduce the financial and psychological burden of couples undergoing infertility treatment. 

  • Applicable Treatments
  1. IVF, In vitro fertilization (対外受精, taigai jusei)
  2. ICSI, Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (顕微授精, kenbi jusei)
  • Subsidy for Women: Up to ¥100,000 per treatment session

Depending on the age at the start of treatment, the total number of times you can receive this subsidy is as follows.

※The number of subsidies per year is not limited. The total subsidy period is not restricted.

  • Subsidy for Men: Up to ¥50,000 per treatment session
